Saint of Steel
The Saint of Steel was a deity worshipped in the World of the White Rat. He had a great temple in Anuket City,[1] with three other temples, including one in Archon's Glory.[2] His insignia is described as "the stylized sword, the gold flames, the hand holding the blade and pouring golden blood down the length."[3]
The Saint of Steel called paladins, who were god-touched, to fight on His behalf. They were berserkers, who could be overcome by what they called the "battle tide," but He directed their activity such that they were always confident they were fighting on the right side. Their activities included removing a cult[4] and killing necromancers.[5]
Some eight years after the Clocktaur War,[6] the Saint of Steel died. It was a little after noon, on the longest day of the year.[7] The effect on the Saint's god-touched paladins and priests was immediate. The high priest of the temple in Anuket City burned the temple to the ground, "screaming about a pyre fit for a god."[8] Other priests either killed themselves or died outright, or fell into a coma from which they did not wake. The paladins fell into an uncontrolled battle rage, killed everyone around them until they could no longer fight, then fell into comas like the priests.[8] Only seven of the paladins in Archenhold survived, of many more who were taken in and cared for in the aftermath by the Temple of the White Rat.[2]
